Just for fun

January 27th 2008

Ok, after a long vacation from the blog I’m back at it. That Seattleite in Paris really scored big because my post about her blog was on the top spot for a long time. The bill is in the mail.

One of the reasons I hadn’t updated my blog was because I was in the process of changing jobs and I had to keep quiet about it and lots of other interesting details that I can’t talk about due to “imminent litigation”. But I can talk about what I’m doing now and that will be the subject of a post in the near future.

In the meantime it’s Sunday night and according to my stats I get a bigger share of hits on Monday mornings. So this is something fun to put off work for another 10 minutes. I was checking in on Sam de Bretagne’s blog and saw this typing test. I haven’t done a typing test since high school, and my speed hasn’t changed much. It’s fun so give it a try.

Touch Typing

Only 1 incorrect word. I was going for accuracy, not speed. Thank god for that typing class in high school. That single class has served me even more than all those science and math classes combined.

I was very happy to find your blog this morning. I googled “What to pack for April in France” and there you were. My husband and I and three of our 6 children are headed to France for 4 weeks beginning the first full week of April. Our other three children are grown and on their own and pretty peeved that we waited until they were out of the house to take a real vacation. All previous vacations have involved funerals or weddings except for our 25th wedding anniversary and still we were only a days drive away from home.

So I feel slightly insane for making my first ‘real vacation’ a transcontinental one! Might I have practiced closer to home? Naw…no need just run with it. Right?

We will be in Paris only a couple of days. We have a house rented in the Loire Valley for 3 weeks and on in Normandy the last week. In between we are to England for a few days. Of course we will be traveling back to Paris during the time - too much to take in for just being there a couple of days.

How’s this for TMI? I really started out to say “Thanks for sharing.” and ask as a US Southerner what might I expect temperature wise? Oh…and if you visit my blog (hey, you said you would!) visit my TRAVELS page (linked at the top).

We are very excited but still quite scared as well. What an experience this will be. And one heck of a field trip.

I have a question about packing. We are leaving for a week in Paris and 10 days in the Loire valley and Lyon on April 30th. Do we need much in colder weather gear? Is it usually rainy? Do you have any other packing suggesting.

The weather often changes dramatically so it’s best to dress in layers. I suggest a sweater and a light jacket if you’re not usually cold or a heavy jacket if you’re cold natured. Today was the first day that I went to work without a jacket.

I remember when I moved here, it was in June and the weather said it was in the 90’s. So I didn’t bring a jacket with me on the plane, I had it packed with my stuff to come by boat. So a couple days after I got here, it got really cold. All I had was short sleeve shirts!

This actually happens several times in May & June, every year. So be prepared.
