Help Wanted - Writer living in France, low pay, fun environment

July 25th 2007

With our second baby due in just a few weeks and a potential career move in the works, I just haven’t had time to write lately. I am becoming an expert at putting together baby furniture and service-oriented architecture but you probably wouldn’t be interested in that. Also the site hasn’t been getting as much traffic as I had planned. The site has been online for 6 months now, and I expected more activity. A lot more. There are several repeat visitors and I’d like to thank all three of you for your patronage (especially you mom, sorry you find my posts disturbing!). But we need more than that to keep the site going. We need more visitors, more comments, more ideas.

So, I thought I’d throw this out. If anyone out there is interested in writing for this site, let me know. Maybe you’ve thought of starting a blog but have put it off. Or maybe you spend a lot of time participating in other blogs. The pay sucks but it’s a lot of fun. And hopefully the site will continue growing. Obviously you’ll need to live in France but I think that’s the only requirement. Well you should probably enjoying writing. A sense of humor is an added bonus. Oops, I just excluded all the French writers! Just kidding. See? It’s not so hard.

Seriously, I need some ideas because I’m about to be seriously short of sleep and time. So let me know if you have any ideas.

I just found your blog and have enjoyed it. I just returned from Paris (first time there) and loved it! If I could figure out a way to support myself I’d move over there in a second! Southwest Florida is very dull place after two wonderful weeks spent in the “City of Light”. You see the main problem for me here is a serious lack of culture. In Florida, flea markets and tractor pulls are considered culture. Sigh. Oh well, back to reality… Au revoir. I’ll write again soon.

Looking is too strong, I’m just hoping one will come along. The more I think about it the more I think it’d be a lot of fun to have several writers here. Especially if they’re not all American. Like an American view on a topic, and then a French view or a Chinese view or wherever else. Paris is a big melting pot. Kind of like New York was.

Amahl, I’ll send you an email.

I’m not actively looking because I haven’t been online searching for people who would be interested. I thought I’d see what happens when I posted that entry, to see if any readers would be interested. Searching online would be the next step. It’s difficult to find time for the blog lately and I’d really like another writer.

5am bottle duty about up, back to bed..

I worked with Michael at two companies in Paris – in fact he got me the second job, thank you Michael – and I found it very interesting to discuss the life in France, and his evolving take on it all. As a liberal Englishman I tried hard to wean him off CNN and to take a look at guardian unlimited at the very least. I may have been sucessful!

But one thing which he hasn’t mentioned as a major attraction of Parisian life is Parisian women. They are fascinating! Well-groomed, slimly built on the whole, they walk with long strides and with an arrogance that dares you to approach but invites you to at the same time. They eat well yet don’t put on much weight, they drink enthusiastically and more often than not smoke, even between courses – this last I can’t understand since the French are always batting on about how they are the ultimate foodies and yet smoking must kill their palates.

Well, my enthusiasm is probably biassed as I have a Parisian girlfriend, and of course Michael married one! But you can’t help admiring the girls you see in cafes, restaurants and just hurrying to work. Maybe other readers have a view – and on Parisian men maybe?
